On February 9th IE Law School Executive Education launched the opening ceremony of the 2012 academic year for the Energy Law and Labor Advisory Program for Professionals.

The opening was led by Mr. Juan José Torres-Fernández Nieto, State Attorney and Vice President of IE Law School Executive Education. During the ceremony he was accompanied by Ms. Cristina Andres, Executive Director of IE Law School Executive Education, Mr. Hermenegildo Altozano,  Partner at Bird & Bird and Academic Director of the  Energy Law Program and Mr. Ignacio Garcia-Escartín Perrote,  Partner at Uria Menendez and Academic Director of the Labour Advisory Program for Professionals. This intake includes students with an impressive professional profile and coming from both Spain and Latin-America.

Mr. Hermenegildo Altozano discussed the importance of the energy sector as the engine of our economy. He said we are facing a radical process of liberalization and deregulation, leading to many opportunities for those with knowledge in the sector. With so many changes on the horizon complete training and education within the sector is an absolute essential.

Following Mr. Altozano, Mr. Ignacio Garcia-Perrote emphasized the importance of the times in which we all have been living, focusing his discussion on labor reforms which radically modify some of our cardinal institutions. Among the measures taken in this Royal Decree, he focused on the elimination of the administrative authorization for collective dismissals, reduction of the compensation for unfair dismissal from 45 to 33 days per year of service, the abolition of processing wages and the so called “express” dismissal.
