This past 15th of November Manuel Pizarro, partner with Baker & McKenzie, lead a conference on the global economic crisis and its repercussions in the legal world, during the IE Law School José María Cervelló Chair.  Mr. Pizarro discussed the key issues of the economic crisis and those principles which should govern the activities of all politicians: “Think, speak and execute thought and speech”. Additionally, Mr. Pizarro opined that a lawyer should be a point of reference for ethics, and given the current climate receive adequate training, and be able to manage languages and technology.

Also speaking during the conference were María del Pilar Galeote, Director of the José María Cervelló Chair, and Juan José Torres and Adolfo Menéndez, co-chairs for the José María Cervelló Chair.

During the conference, the opening of the Sixth José María Cervelló Prize was also announced, whose theme this year is “The regulation of sponsorship: reasons and legal opportunity under a new Law”.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the possibility for financial donations from students, alumni or anyone interested in the Chair or for professors to donate their time by teaching sessions. (www.catedracervello.ie.edu)
